Know Your Teacher : Ms. Sudha Sharma

Hello, I am Sudha – your personal counselor and mentor. I was born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu in 1959 and my parents are Mrs. Rukmani Srinivasan and Mr. V Srinivasan. We lived in Trivandrum, Kerala for a couple of years after my birth and then shifted to Pune in 1961 and this has been our family’s base since then.

My father, with a Masters Degree in Physics, started his career as a lecturer in Madras Christian College. Later he joined the Indian Meteorological Service and specialized in radar and instruments for safe landing of aircraft. He retired as a Director, Indian Meteorological Service, after serving as a UN Expert in World Meteorological Organisation, Geneva. My mother is a home maker and a homeopath. Both my parents have been very fond of reading and naturally I love reading too. My only sister – Usha - is an electronics engineer and she specialized in laser technology and spent 30 years of her career in that field. Today she is engaged in a second career as a medical transcriptionist. Ours is a very small close knit family and we continue to live in Pune. Both my parents have had a great influence on me and have been instrumental in enabling me to be the person I am today.

I have a degree in Commerce and a Post Graduate Diploma in Banking. I am also a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers. I chose banking as a career and spent 30 years in this field from the age of 18 to the age of 48. As a banker I got the opportunity to work abroad in the United Kingdom. I could travel to many countries, both in Europe and the USA. This helped broaden my horizons.

My interest and passion, which I share with my mother, has been the field of medicine and health as well as impacting the lives of others in a positive manner. I am a people’s person and love meeting and interacting with people. As a result, my second career has naturally centred around these areas. I have studied the first two levels of Reiki from Dr. Mukund Tabib in 2000 and I am a Reiki Practitioner. In 2005, I completed the Basic Course in Accupressure from the Shiatsu Research and Training Institute, Pune and my guru in this field is Dr. C R Desai. I have completed the first level of Sri Sri Ravishankar’s Art of Living course. I practice Yoga and Pranayam regularly. Besides, I am a freelance trainer in soft skills and personality development as well as a counselor for optimal health. I guide people in investments being an AMFI certified Mutual Fund Advisor. And I have a business of my own related to the wellness industry. I am a certified Mentor and am involved in mentoring entrepreneurs associated with Bharatiya Yuva Shakti Trust.

I have always believed in giving back to society and I am actively involved with “Navkshitij” – a home for mentally challenged adults, SOS Childrens Village – an orphanage, Dignity Foundation – a trust for senior citizens and BYST – a trust for entrepreneurship development. I am a member of their Entrepreneur Selection Panel (Rural Maharashtra).
